Greetings!
On Wednesday, November 9, we will begin our discussions of Francis Chan and Preston Sprinkle’s erasing hell, a 2011 publication written in response to Rob Bell’s Love Wins. We will be meeting from 6 to 7:30 P.M. for seven weeks in Jim Huitt’s SS classroom on the second floor. I strongly urge you to come and be a part of this excellent study.
Randy Alcorn, the author of Heaven, says this of the book: “Erasing Hell is an extraordinarily important book. [Chan] recognizes this debate [over hell] is about God, His nature and His authority. At stake is whether or not we will trust Him. [Chan] mixes straight from-the-heart talk with diligent citation of Scripture. This remarkable book embraces not what, in pride, we want to believe, but what, in humility, we must believe.”
We will be dealing with questions like the following:
Does the Bible actually teach the existence of an eternal hell?
If hell does truly exist, how could a loving God send people there?
Does Scripture say that eventually everyone will be saved?
In order to be prepared for the first night, please pick up your copy of the book in the office and read Chapter 1. Books will also be available at the first meeting. We are expecting a rather large class, so it would be advisable (and appreciated) if you would call the office at 468-8044 to register by noon on Friday, November 4. Knowing the number of participants to expect will allow us to plan for the most suitable classroom and to have a sufficient number of books and handouts so we don’t waste valuable class time on opening night.
As I have a limited number of e-mail addresses, please forward this invitation to anyone you know who might be interested. You may be glad to know that we are expecting to offer this class again at a later date if you absolutely cannot attend this first session. I hope to see you Wednesday!
Blessings in Christ,
Carol Lueken
