Christmas Eve
December 24, 2009

5 and 7 pm

We had small groups this past Sunday, but you all proclaimed the holiness God with power. Thanks to the few of you who took the time to be here this past Sunday. This week we will be singing “Great Is The Lord” in both services. Since this will be my last Sunday here, I would like to have as many of you here as possible, to be able to lead in worship with you one last time. We have sung this song a few times before, most recently write before Thanksgiving, so it will be familiar to most of you. Since the song is familiar it’s perfectly okay for you to sing, even if you haven’t been to rehearsals. There will be no rehearsals this evening due to the concert at 6:00 pm.

Bradley Perry and Brianna Key will be singing the Vocal Praise in both services.

Mable Brown will be playing the Piano and Virgie McGill will be playing the keyboard in the 8:15 service.

Kathy Perry will be playing the Piano and Jean Lueken will be playing the keyboard in the 10:45 service.

Evan Aldridge will be in concert this evening at 6:00 pm

EVAN ALDRIDGE IN CONCERT

I hope you will all attend this concert at 6:00 pm on Sunday evening. For me it is the end of one Ministry and the beginning of another type of Ministry. I will be singing many of the songs that you have told me you enjoyed the most, as well a couple of new ones. There will also be a time of commissioning to send us out from you. It was very important for me that this new ministry begin here at this place that has meant so much to us, so naturally I want the people who I’ve worked with and who have meant so much to me to be here also.

MAKE-UP CHOIR REHEARSAL

Since rehearsals are cancelled for Sunday, there will be a make-up choir rehearsal at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, January 28.

EASTER PROGRAM

Preparations are underway for this years Easter program. We are rehearsing on Sunday evenings at 6:00 pm in the Choir room. Rehearsal C.D.’s and Books are available in the Choir room.

MUSIC FOR SUNDAY, DECEMBER 21, 2008

What a great time of worship we had Sunday, you all sang “Rose of Bethlehem” beautifully. This Sunday we will be singing “Do You Hear What I Hear” in both services. We will need everyone who is participating in the Christmas program to sing in both services. We usually sit in the choir loft through the whole service during the 8:15 service but if you need to leave after we sing you are welcome to. After we sing in the 10:45 service everyone will be dismissed from the choir loft. Thanks in advance for the extra effort, this will help to get everyone excited about the Christmas program.

Dress Rehearsal for The Christmas Program will be at 5:30 pm in the Auditorium.

DRESS REHEARSAL

This Years Christmas Program Dress Rehearsal will be on Sunday, December 21 at 5:30 pm. All program participants are required to attend. That means all Choir members, all Drama Members, All technical and support personel. Thank you all so much for your hard work, I really appreciate each and everyone who is playing a part in this program. Your participation is what makes this events and others like it so special.

Great Job last Sunday on “Born Is The King”. Although we had a little problem in the first service, you still sang beautifully and strong and then we rallied and did it perfectly in the second service. Thanks for coming to proclaim the start of the Christmas season, I was encouraged by the number of people who were here to sing. This week we will be singing the beautiful song “Rose of Bethlehem”. Please, sing in both services if at all possible, we need to keep building momentum right up until Christmas eve.

CHRISTMAS PROGRAM REHEARSAL ATTENDANCE

We are now in the home stretch in preparations for our Christmas program. With only 4 rehearsals left it is vital that you attend as many of the remaining rehearsals as possible if not all of them. We need everyone at rehearsals so we get a realistic idea of what it will actually sound like as well as adjust the balance if needed. We also need to make folder and robe assignments,and work on possible seating arrangements etc… The remaining rehearsals are Wednesday, December 10 at 6:30, Sunday, December 14 at 5:30, Wednesday, December 17 at 6:30, and the dress rehearsal is on Sunday evening, December 21 at 5:30. Everyone will need to attend the dress rehearsal. The Christmas Program is on Wednesday, December 24 at 5:00 and 7:00 pm, you will be required to sing in both services. A light supper will be provided for program participants and their families in between the two programs at 6:00 pm.

You all did a fantastic job Sunday on “Great Is The Lord”, I thought all the music was wonderful and it really aided in our worship and helped us to focus on being grateful to God. This Sunday neither the choir or the praise team will be singing in either service. Please enjoy going to the service of your choice and setting with your family members. We will also not be having any rehearsals in the evening. Rehearsals will resume at 6:30 on Wednesday, December 3 and again on Sunday December 7 at 5:30. Enjoy your Thanksgiving break.

Thank you for a great job on “Give Thanks” last Sunday, My wife said that the Choir sounded especially good to her. She has had to listen to enough choirs in her lifetime that she should know, so we will take her word for it. This Sunday is a special Sunday, because it is the Sunday before Thanksgiving, and we always try to have a special emphasis on this day every year. Because of this I am asking all Choir members to sing in both services. Please be in the Choir room by 8:00 for the first service and again at 10:30 am for the second service, we will be singing “Great Is The Lord”, a great song and you all sound so good on it. Your willingness to take the extra time to serve the Lord is much appreciated.

Glen Carter will sing the Vocal Praise in both services. (Always a Special Treat)

Kathy Perry will play the piano and Jean Lueken will play the keyboard in both services. (They will be playing their wonderful duets, another special treat)

CHRISTMAS EVE CELEBRATION

I hope you all are getting excited about our annual Christmas Eve Celebration. We have over 40 people committed to sing in the choir, and during rehearsals it is really starting to take shape. If you aren’t involved yet you still have time to get involved. There are still two more rehearsals this month and 6 more next month. Come sing with us, help us to reach our goal of 50 people. In the meantime our rehearsals are on Sunday evenings at 5:30 and on Wednesday evenings at 6:30. The program will be on December 24 (Christmas Eve), at 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm with a light supper in between the two for program participants and their families. We will be wearing Choir robes for the program.

Even though there were more people in the congregation on Sunday, there were fewer people in the Choir in both services, but we were mighty. You all did an exceptionally good job on “We Cry Holy” this past Sunday. I want to thank all of you for singing. This Sunday we will be singing “Give Thanks” in both services. Our effectiveness as a Choir depends on your participation, so I hope and pray that we will have a good number of people in both services. It was great to have you all back in worship this past Sunday. You sang the song “These Things Are True of You” very prayerfully and with great conviction. Thank you for your thoughtful interpretation of the song. This Sunday we will be singing “We Cry Holy” in both services. During our rehearsal everything always sounds so nice and full, but on Sunday mornings when we sing in the different services we don’t have as many people and it doesn’t sound the same. It still sounds fine, but I want the congregation to hear that same full nice sound that we have during rehearsals. If at all possible please sing in both services. We meet in the choir room at 8:00 am for the early service and at 10:30 for the second service. I look forward to seeing you there.

To aid you in learning the Christmas music we have added Wednesday rehearsals to our schedule. These rehearsals begin at 6:30 on Wednesday evenings and will continue through the Christmas season and will be in addition to our regular Sunday evening 5:30 pm rehearsal. Wednesday rehearsals begin this Wednesday, November 5.

CHRISTMAS EVE CELEBRATION

Our Christmas Eve Celebration is coming along nicely. If you haven’t already joined us you can still join us by attending 2 rehearsals in November and 2 in December plus the dress rehearsal on Sunday evening December 23 at 5:30. Of course the program will be on December 24 at 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm with a light dinner provided for program participants and their families in between the two.

Please continue to pray about your level of involvement, and then do whatever the Lord leads you to do. If you are going to participate in the Christmas program, you will need to attend two rehearsals during the month of November and two in December plus the Dress rehearsal on December 21 at 5:30. Sunday evening rehearsals are at 5:30 and Wednesday rehearsals will begin at 6:30 on November 5. We currently have 40 people who have committed to participating in this event. Thank you all for the work in recruiting. Our Christmas Eve Celebration will be on Wednesday December 24 (Christmas Eve) at 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm with a light Dinner provided in between programs for program participants and their families.

WEDNESDAY REHEARSALS

In order to help us better prepare for the Christmas program, we will be adding Wednesday rehearsals beginning on November 5 at 6:3o-7:30 pm. These rehearsals will be dedicated solely to the preparation of the Christmas program. We will still continue rehearsing the Christmas program on Sunday evenings at 5:30 for the first 45 minutes of rehearsal. We would love it if those participating in the Christmas program would stay for the entire Sunday evening rehearsal and help us out on our Sunday Morning Music, and then sing with us on Sunday morning during the time you are singing with us. Please pray about doing this and then do whatever the Lord leads you to do. We would appreciate your help.

Great job last week on “We’re Here to Worship”. That song really states the reason we are here on Sundays very plainly, and you all proclaimed that message boldly, thank you. This week we will be observing the Lord’s Supper in both services, and will not be singing in either service. I hope you will attend the service of your choice and reflect worshipfully upon what the Lord has done for you as you observe this ordinance.

CHRISTMAS EVE CELEBRATION

It’s still not to late for you to get involved in the Christmas Eve Celebration. Just pick-up a rehearsal C.D. and start attending two rehearsals a month. To date we have 40 people who have committed to participating. Our goal is 50. We still have 10 more people to go. I believe we can do this, but I need you to help me recruit. If you know of someone who can carry a tune please ask them to come sing with us. This years program as per the tradition is on Christmas Eve, Wednesday December 24, 2008 at 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm. The Dress rehearsal will be on Sunday evening December 21 at 5:30 pm.

CHOIR FUND

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the Choir Ministry fund. We are in good shape now and I will try to remember to take up a collection at the beginning of each month. Your generosity is much appreciated.

WEDNESDAY CHRISTMAS REHEARSALS BEGIN IN NOVEMBER

I would like to thank everyone for attending our Sunday evening 5:30 rehearsals it has really helped us to be able to get all the music rehearsed. Now we will be adding Wednesday evening rehearsals beginning on November 5. The rehearsals will begin at 6:30 and end at 7:30 and will be dedicated solely to the rehearsal of our Christmas program. These rehearsals are for your benefit and are to provide an additional opportunity for you learn the Christmas music. I hope you will all take full advantage of every rehearsal opportunity that we provide.

Thanks to all of those who sang with us Sunday morning, the Lord’s presence was evident in the way you sang. This Sunday we will be singing “We’re Here To Worship” in both services. Please remember to pray about your involvement and participation level. I know that most of you are really doing all you can do, but maybe there are some who could increase their involvement, or maybe some who have gone inactive could become active. We could really use more involvement especially in the early service. Please seek God’s guidance and will for your life regarding this matter. CHRISTMAS EVE CELEBRATION

Preparations are well underway for our annual Christmas Eve Celebration, but it’s not to late for people to join us. We have around 40 now who have joined us. Our goal is 50. Just 10 more people and we will reach our goal. I know we can do it. Even if you’ve decided that you aren’t going to sing, you can always change your mind, and if you are singing, first of all thank you, and second of all ask one person if they will sing with us. If all 40 people who are participating would ask one person to come sing with us, we would probably exceed our goal of 50 people. Thanks in advance for your extra effort.

CHOIR FUND

We are still collecting money for the Choir Ministry Fund. We collected enough to pay the bill last Sunday, now we just need to boost the funds a little bit so when other needs come up we will be prepared. Your generosity in the past has sent flowers and plants and provided food and comfort for many of our members who were grieving, or in the hospital. It has also helped others to celebrate special occasions, like the birth of a child etc… Your gift has also helped sponsor a child for world vision as well as help to send teens on the mission trip. It doesn’t always take a lot to do a lot, just a willing spirit. Your gift of any amount, even if it’s just spare change that you have rattling around in your purses or pockets can make a huge difference.

KALEB KRUEGER CONCERT

Last Sundays concert featuring Kaleb Krueger was great! I was completely blown away. Very seldom do you find such talent, Godly wisdom and boldness in anyone, let alone someone so young. God has truly blessed this young man, not only with great talent and ability, but with a message to proclaim. Everyone that was here truly received a blessing. This young man needs to be on all our prayer lists.

Thank you all so much for the positive response to our Christmas Eve Celebration. At this point we have 4o people signed up, but I wanted to have 50. Surely in a church this size there is 10 more people that would sing. It’s not to late to get involved! Just begin attending two rehearsals a month. Our rehearsals will now be on Sunday evenings beginning at 5:30 pm. If you are involved in G.R.O.W. please attend that first and then come to choir afterwards. We will rehearse the Christmas program for the first 45 minutes and then rehearse the regular Sunday morning music the second half. If you are just participating in the Christmas program you may leave when we finish working on the program, or stay and help us out on our Sunday morning music, and then sing with us on Sundays, we would appreciate your help and contribution in proclaiming Christ to our church and community in whatever way that you can.

Kaleb Krueger will be in concert at 6:00 pm this Sunday evening, October 5. CHRISTMAS EVE CELEBRATION

Thank you all so much for your response to this years Christmas Eve Celebration. The response cards keep trickling in. I have received 40 cards so far indicating a yes response, and several saying no, but they would pray for us. If you haven’t returned your card yet please be sure to do that as soon a possible. I also ordered 50 books and have only three of those left. I hope it means that in reality 47 people are participating (I would love to have 50 people or more), but just in case, please check your homes and cars to make sure you don’t have an extra book lying around, I can get all the books we need so don’t let that affect your decision. Please welcome back returning choir members Daisy Campbell, and Anna Scantlan. It’s not to late for you to be involved, and even if you marked the no response on your response card you can always change your mind. Just remember you are always welcome.

MAKE-UP CHOIR REHEARSAL

Due to the Kaleb Krueger Concert this Sunday evening there will be know rehearsals. A make-up Choir rehearsal has been scheduled for 6:30 pm on Wednesday, October 8. The Praise Team will not rehearse this week, but Kalyn C., Erica T., Kathy P. and Rick M. will still sing without rehearsing on Sunday October 12.

EXTRA REHEARSALS

Beginning on Sunday, October 12 we will start our Sunday evening rehearsals at 5:30 pm. We will work on the Christmas music the first 45 minutes and the regular Sunday music the last 45 minutes. If you have a previous commitment like a discipleship class, or G.R.O.W. you will need to attend to those commitments first and then come to choir when they are over.

Last Sunday was a different kind of Sunday since the storm was blowing through right about the time we were all coming to church for the early service, and there were all kinds of power outages, because of that, there just wasn’t enough people able to get here for us to be able to sing in the early service, but we were able to sing in the second service and everyone did a fine job. KALEB KRUEGER IN CONCERT

On Sunday evening October 5 at 6:00 pm we will be hosting Kaleb Krueger in concert. Kaleb is probably about 18 years old, extremely talented and gifted. He plays the guitar and piano and has a great singing voice. He has been doing concerts in churches since he was 15 years old. His commitment and desire to serve the Lord will be a huge blessing to you. Please begin now to invite your families, friends, acquaintances etc… to this special event.

The Sullivan Community Choir could still use more members especially men. If any of you have time, come give it a try. They meet every Tuesday evening at 7:00 pm in the Sullivan High School Choir room. I went last week and enjoyed it, I know you would too.

The Open Choir rehearsal and our first Christmas program rehearsal was a huge success. Although we didn’t get any new members, we had several former members come back to join us for the Christmas program. The Sullivan Community Choir will be holding their first rehearsal for the new season this evening at 7:00 pm in the High School Choir Room. This year there is no charge for membership. The Director is Deanna Spurgeon who is a former Sullivan High School Choral Director herself. She is a very respected musician and choral director in this area, I know you would learn a lot from her, and I know the Sullivan Community Choir would be happy to have any of you as members.

CHRISTMAS IN AUGUST

Our Christmas in August party was great! Mike and Marcella have a beautiful home with a large yard, the even rented a tent for us to sit under outside. Although there were not very many people there, the ones that were had a great time of fellowship and there was enough food for an army, so we ate well. After the food and fellowship we moved inside where we celebrated Audra’s birthday with a birthday cake and dessert and coffee, and listened to this years Christmas program which was very well received by everyone that was there. I want to thank all of those who attended for taking time out of your busy schedule to participate. Those that were there were able to pick-up their books and rehearsal C.D.’s, but for all of those that were not there the books and C.D.’s are available for pick-up in the choir room at your convenience.

“The First Time I Saw Love” was enjoyed by all on Sunday. You all did a fantastic Job as usual the Lord was really glorified. This week due to the holiday weekend neither the choir or the praise team will sing in either service, and there will be no rehearsals in the evening.

We will have our annual open choir rehearsal on Sunday, September 7 at 6:00 pm. Please feel free to invite anyone you would like to see in choir. We will also begin work on this years Christmas program during this rehearsal.

CHRISTMAS EVE CELEBRATION

This year we will be celebrating 15 years of service to our church and community through our annual Christmas Eve Celebration. Many people have told me that it doesn’t feel like Christmas unless they come to our program. I think that speaks well of us, and it makes me proud to be part of such a ministry. This year we are inviting all past, present and future choir members to come help us mark this milestone event. Another words anyone who has ever sung in the choir, or who has ever wanted too is welcome to come sing with us during this program. This years program “Noel, Night of Everlasting Love” is a more traditional program with beautiful arrangements of all the favorite traditional Christmas music. It will be one that everyone will love and feel very comfortable singing. S0 let this be the first invitation to all who read this to come and sing with us. Work begins on Sunday evening September 7 at 6:00 pm.

CHRISTMAS IN AUGUST

If you are curious about what we will be doing for Christmas this year this is the party for you, if you just want to fellowship, this is also the party for you. Just load up the family and your favorite Christmas snack and come on. Remember this year we are celebrating 15 years of doing the Cantata on Christmas Eve, and all past, present and future Choir members are invited to attend. Work will begin on our Christmas program during our open Choir rehearsal on Sunday September 7.

OPEN CHOIR REHEARSAL

We will have an open choir rehearsal for all those interested in joining the choir on Sunday, September 7 at 6:00 pm. If you want to join the choir, or are just interested to see what we do in choir come sit in on this rehearsal, if you love music, can carry tune, and have a heart for worshipping God, choir is the ministry for you. If any of you choir members have people that you want to invite, feel free, your help would be much appreciated.

NOTE BURNING

We will not be singing in the note burning celebration after all. We will be using a trailer for a stage, and I don’t think we would all be able to get up there very easily or fit very well. Also we don’t really have anyway to mic the choir outdoors like that, so we won’t be singing.

WEDNESDAY SCHEDULE CHANGES

Our Wednesday evening schedule will be changing beginning on the 20th of August. Wednesday Meals will be from 5:00 to 6:00 pm and prices will be $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children 12 and under. G-Force for children 1st through 6th grades and Youth programs for grades 7 through 12 will begin at 6:00 pm. Prayer meeting will now begin at 6:30 while any other adult activity will begin anytime between 6:00 and 6:30. The good news is that everything will now conclude by 7:30 getting all of us home a little earlier, and easing the burden on families with school age children. Because of the scheduling changes we will now have any make-up or extra Wednesday Choir rehearsals from 6:30-7:30 during prayer meeting. If you have any question, don’t hesitate to call.

REHEARSAL CHANGES

Due to the note burning celebration and labor day weekend it will be necessary to reschedule two rehearsals. We will have no rehearsals on Sunday evening August 24 due to the note burning ceremony. This makes it necessary to schedule a make-up rehearsal on Wednesday August 27 at 6:30. We will also not be rehearsing during labor day weekend, Sunday August 31 which means another make-up rehearsal has been scheduled for Wednesday, September 3 at 6:30 pm. Please mark your calendars and change your schedules accordingly. Thanks for your flexibility.

Great Job Sunday on “Don’t You Wanna Go”, the congregation really seemed to enjoy it and you did a great job. Also thanks to everyone who filled in for me while I was away, Bradley Perry led in worship in both services while I was away, and he conducted the praise team rehearsal. Kathy Perry did Choir practice, Gene Schuler did Wednesday Worship and, and Helen Gould did the Tuesday Morning prayer time. Chuck and Gwen Cuneio did Sunday School for us, and Becky Radford watched our pets and house. We had a very fun vacation, thanks for keeping things going while I was gone.

On Sunday, August 24 at 6:00 pm our church will be celebrating paying off our debt with a note burning ceremony. We will be participating in this event as part of the entertainment, so mark your calendars, you won’t want to miss it. This years Christmas in August party will be on Friday, August 22 and 6:30 pm. This is the time when we preview this years Christmas program, and fellowship together one last time before all the activity of the fall gets going again. This years program is called “Noel, Night of Everlasting Love”. It is a more traditional program with many of the familiar Christmas songs in it that we all grew up singing, and that will really highlight the choir. Song titles are; Shout for Joy, O Come, All Ye Faithful, Away in a Manger, O Holy Night!, Angels from the Realms of Glory, Rejoice with Exceeding Great Joy, March of the Kings, We Three Kings, The First Noel, What Child is This?, Do You Hear What I Hear?, Silent Night! We are also going to open it up to all Past, Present and Future Choir members, because it it the 15th anniversary of us doing the Cantata on Christmas Eve so we will make a huge deal out of it. If we have over 50 people we will not wear choir robes, so get out there and help me recruit. I already have a cool set up in mind for the Choir loft that will leave a section for people who have physical limitations, to sit, and the best part is it will look like that they are supposed to be sitting, so nobody will have to feel uncomfortable. This is going to be so fun! I can’t wait!

CHOIR PARTY

We had a great time at the Choir Party, we had between 25 and 30 there, counting spouses and Children. We filled ourselves with sweets all evening long and talked and told stories, laughed and visited, while the kids played. It was a great end to one season of Ministry and a good beginning to a new one. Thank you all for coming and bringing ice cream and cookies, and fruit and toppings etc…, and thanks to Ted and Nancy for opening up their beautiful place to us, they were greats Hosts.

Okay everyone! I could not of dreamed that our Patriotic Celebration would have gone so well and have been so well received. I am well aware that the success of any program has little to do with me and mostly to do with the Lords’ hand of blessing as well as your commitment and dedication to this ministry. Without the Lord and you we wouldn’t be having any programs, and I wouldn’t have a job, so I’m grateful to the Lord that I get to be a part of what he is doing, and that he uses and guides me as I put a program together, and to develop the talent that he uses to present the program. I was truly blessed and I hope you were too. What a great way to end this season of Ministry, and to begin another.

PARTY!!!!!!!!

Our celebration of what the Lord has done for us this Choir season has been scheduled. It will be held at the home of Ted and Nancy Logan on Friday, July 18 at 6:30 pm. If you have participated in the Music Ministry in any way from last July until now you are invited. Even if you just sang in the Choir one time we want you to come. Realizing that we can all do more together than by our selves, this party is to celebrate your team spirit by pulling together to get the job done, and to celebrate the Lord’s continual blessing. The main course is homemade ice-cream. If you have the ability to make homemade ice-cream make your favorite flavor and bring it for us to try. If you don’t know how, or don’t have the time bring something that goes with ice-cream, like Sunday toppings, or fried chicken (Kidding!!!) or watermelon, and please someone make chocolate ice-cream, or bring your favorite summer treat, or don’t bring anything, just come. There will be a variety of activities to do or you can just sit and fellowship. Either way come and relax, bring your families (Children included) and have a great time.

The month of July is a hard month to get rehearsals in. This Sunday, July 6 rehearsals are canceled due to the fact that it is a holiday weekend. Sunday, July 13 rehearsals will be canceled because of V.B.S. preparations. Because they use our room during V.B.S. it will need to be decorated etc… so the first time we will be able to rehearse is Sunday evening July 20 at 6:00 pm. The Praise Team will rehearse at 7:00 pm with Kalyn Center, Erica Turilli, Rick Matthiesen and Bradley Perry in attendance.

This week is our Patriotic Celebration in both services. I want to take the opportunity to thank each person who is participating in advance. We have not had to spend that much extra time preparing, in fact even if you’ve only attended one rehearsal or if you have the ability to sight read your way through you can still participate in this program. We won’t be having anymore rehearsals between now and then so let your own comfort level be your guide. This is a BIG MUSIC SUNDAY so it is very important that you participate in both services if at all possible. Please be in the choir room by 7:30 am. We will present the program at 8:15 and 10:45 am. Please wear red, white, or navy blue, any or all of these colors will be fine. Ladies wear slacks or dresses. Thanks again for being a part of this special time of worship.

REHEARSAL CANCELLATIONS

We will not be having rehearsals on the evening of June 29 due to our patriotic program, or the evening of July 6 due to the holiday weekend. Rehearsals will also be cancelled on July 13, due to V.B.S preparations. Rehearsals will resume Sunday evening July 20 at 6:00 pm for the Choir and 7:00 pm for the praise team. You all have done a fantastic Job on everything this year and you deserve a nice break. I hope this will get you rested and motivated to serve after the break. I want to thank everyone who participated at all in any way this year for all of your hard work and dedication, and the time and talents that you gave and continue to give so freely in the service of our Lord.

CHOIR PARTY

We need to party! After this Sunday we will just have completed another season of Ministry for the Choir, and as far as I know everyone survived. I think that calls for celebration. If you host the party at your home we will schedule it at your convenience when we hear from you. I hosted the last one and we all had a great time, and there wasn’t to much damage. (Ha!Ha!)

WOW!!!! All I can say is Wow about our services Sunday. Everything about the music was great. You sang the Choir special wonderfully, the accompanist did a fantastic Job, Sound, the Quartet, everything was great, then that was followed up with a great message, I could not have asked for it to go better. Our Patriotic Celebration is fast approaching, in fact we have two more rehearsals left to go before we present the program at 8:15 and 10:45 am on June 29, and guess what? You can still be involved, it’s not to late. Just come to the last two rehearsals. The first one is tomorrow, Wednesday June 18 at 6:00 pm. The second one is on Sunday, June 22 at 6:00 pm. The music is very familiar and you will be able to pick it up in no time at all. We will be wearing red white and blue for this presentation. Any one of these colors or any combination there of will be fine. This is going to be a great time of worship, I hope you will all be involved.

Thanks to those of you who were able to be here Sunday for the effort that you put forth. We didn’t have enough people to sing in the early service, and we had a small group in the second service, when we did sing. Please make every effort to be here this Sunday, for Father’s Day. We want this service to be special, and it is a BIG MUSIC SUNDAY, so you will need to plan to sing in both services. We will be singing the song “I Believe It All” in both services. This is a song that we have done a few times before, so most of you will know it. Please be in the choir room by 8:00 am for the 8:15 service, and again by 10:30 for the 10:45 service. You are much appreciated.

The Men’s Quartet will sing the Vocal Praise in both services.

ATTENDANCE

Summer is here, and the heat tends to make us all tired and worn out. The things that we normally would do, we don’t feel like doing. People are also taking weekend trips and vacations etc… These things are to be expected during the summer months, but what is unexpected is to not have enough people here to sing on a Sunday morning. Last Sunday for the early service, we only had 9 people show up, and the second service group was small. I want to be careful not to offend anybody at all, but I really expect for you all to be here on Sundays, I don’t ever expect that we will have perfect attendance, but I do plan on and expect to have enough people to sing in both services on Sunday mornings. The people who attend church here on Sunday mornings also expect the choir to sing. Those 9 people who showed up to sing in the early service also dragged themselves out of bed Sunday morning with the expectation that they would sing. I really don’t like to waste anyone’s time, but when they couldn’t’ sing it wasted the time and effort that they put forth to be here early. We might have gone ahead and sang if all the parts were covered, but we didn’t even have enough people to cover the parts. As a general rule as long as all the parts are covered, and we have 10 or more people in attendance we will sing. We have over 40 active choir members, with this number we should always have enough people to sing in both services. So I’m asking everyone to make a special effort to be here to sing on Sunday mornings through the summer. As members of the choir there are certain expectations that are placed on us automatically, and singing each week is one of them. Please, if you are in town come to church, and if you are in church sing in the choir, even if you’ve missed a few rehearsals, we need you.

PATRIOTIC CELEBRATION

Work is underway on this years Patriotic Celebration to be presented on June 29 at 8:15 and 10:45 am. If you are going to participate you will want to attend at least two rehearsals this month so that you will know what’s going on. All solo assignments have been made. Linda Magruder will sing the solo on “God Bless America”, Christie Jones will be singing the solo on “Break Our Hearts”, and The Men’s Quartet will be singing the Vocal Praise solo. I still have three speaking parts that will be read during the services. I will be making those assignments next Sunday during rehearsal. If you would like one, just let me know before Sunday evenings rehearsal. For this program we will wear red, white and navy blue. You may wear any one of these colors or any combination of the three.

FATHER’S DAY

This year, Father’s Day will be on June 15. This will be a BIG MUSIC SUNDAY. Please mark your calendars and plan to sing in both services on this day. If all goes well and we can pull it together we will be singing the song “Adonai” on that Sunday.

HELP WANTED

I still need a volunteer assistant that will help maintain the music library, take role, manage the choir fund, send out we missed you cards, just help keep things organized in general. If you know of someone that attends our church, that is looking for a behind the scenes type ministry that would be willing to do this, please let me know. They do not have to be a singer or a musician, however they will be considered a full fledged member of the Worship Arts Ministry. This person would work whenever there is a choir rehearsal.

I hope everyone had a great holiday weekend, you led us in worship fantastically this past Sunday. “Calvary’s Love” is an older song, but it has a beautiful melody and a powerful message that is so relevant for today. Thanks to everyone who came out on this holiday weekend, it helped to make our time of worship special. This Sunday we will be singing “Don’t You Wanna Go” in both services. As you know summer is a hard time for the Choir, so if you can possibly sing in both services that would help a lot, but also remember that if you are in town and in church, that you are welcome to come to choir even if you have missed a few rehearsals. Please be in the Choir room by 8:00 am for the early service and again by 10:30 am for the second service. As always, I am so grateful for you time and commitment.

PATRIOTIC PROGRAM

It’s still not to late for you to be involved in the Patriotic Program. Rehearsals are Sunday evenings at 6:00 pm. This year the program is set up more like a Worship service with a lot of music in it. We will be celebrating our country, honoring our veterans and their families, as well as praying for our country. I hope you will prayerfully consider participating in this program. Just wanted to remind you that we are in preparations for this years Patriotic Presentation. It’s not to late for you to be involved. We will be rehearsing every Sunday evening at 6:00 pm. Please come Join us. There will be one stand alone solo, you just select the Christian Patriotic Solo of your choice. There will also be one solo on the song “Break Our Hearts, and one on “God Bless America”. I will be making solo assignments on Sunday evening June 1 beginning at 5:00 pm. You just show up anytime between 5:00 and 6:00 pm on that day and I will listen to you. Since we don’t have listening or Practice C.D.’s it doesn’t really matter if you know the song or not, except for the stand alone solo, you will need to know that one. If you can’t come on this date, just let me know and I will schedule a different time to listen to you. The program itself will be presented on June 29 at 8:00 am, and 10:45 am. PATRIOTIC PROGRAM

Work has begun on our Patriotic Program. We began rehearsal last Wednesday and will continue working tomorrow at our Make-up Choir rehearsal at 6:00 pm. In the program there will be three solo opportunities. The first one will be on the song “Break Our Hearts”, the second one will be on “God Bless America”. The Third will be a stand alone solo where whoever sings it picks the Christian Patriotic song of there Choice and sings it by themselves. Rehearsals will be on Sunday evenings at 6:00 pm unless we cancel a rehearsal. If we cancel a rehearsal we will hold a make-up rehearsal on the following Wednesday at 6:00 pm. This program will be presented on Sunday, June 29 at 8:15 and 10:45 am. We will wear Red, White, or Navy Blue. Anyone of those colors or any combination of those colors will be fine. Please prayerfully consider being a part of this program.

HOUSE KEEPING

I really appreciate when people want to take their music home to work on, but many times not meaning to, we forget to bring it back. Then when you get to rehearsal you pick up another copy and then forget completely about the other copy at home. So I’m asking everyone to check around your house to see if you may have any music laying around that might belong to the Church. If you do just return it, no big deal. All of the churches music will be stamped with the slogan “Swiped from the Music Ministry of Temple Baptist Church” on it. Also, I have cleaned out all the slots and the folders. If you had any keep sakes or anything in your folders, I’m sorry, it won’t be there anymore. In the future if there is something that you want to keep, don’t put it in your folders. From time to time I have to go through them to take out trash, get old music, check to make sure they are not falling apart, clean them etc… If at that time there is anything in them besides the music we are singing it will be taken out and disposed of. Having extra items in the folders causes excess ware and tare, and makes them heavier and harder to hold. Please take care of your folders, by making sure that you don’t over fill them with anything except the music that we give you.

HELP WANTED

If you know of anyone who would like to be a member of the Music Ministry, but doesn’t want to sing, then I have the job for them. We are currently in need of a new “Music Ministry Assistant”. This is a volunteer position that would require, role taking, filing music, sending out we missed you cards, managing the music fund etc… The hours would be during every choir rehearsal, usually Sunday evenings from 6:00-7:00, but through the year we have extra rehearsals and make-up rehearsals that they would need to be at. Let me know if you know of someone and I will contact them.

This Sunday is Mother’s Day and it is also a BIG MUSIC SUNDAY, which means that EVERYONE SINGS IN BOTH SERVICES. To help make this day special for the Women and Mothers that will be with us on Sunday I need all of you to sing in both services. We will be singing the song “You Call Me Yours” from the Easter program, so a lot of people know it. If you sang in the Easter program please come and sing with us. Please be in the choir room by 8:00 am for the early service and again at 10:30 for the 10:45 service. If you haven’t been to choir in a while and need to refresh the song in your memory we will be having choir rehearsal tomorrow evening, Wednesday May 7 at 6:00 pm. BIG MUSIC SUNDAY

This Sunday, Mother’s Day, May 11 is a BIG MUSIC SUNDAY. This is when everybody sings in both services to help make the services more special. Other BIG MUSIC SUNDAYS that we have scheduled will be on Sunday, June 15 (Father’s Day) and of Course on June 29th when we present our Patriotic program. Please mark your calendars and plan to be here on these BIG MUSIC SUNDAYS.

PATRIOTIC PROGRAM

Work begins on our Patriotic Presentation tomorrow, Wednesday May 7 at 6:00 pm. I hope all of you will plan on being a part of this special time of Worship and celebration. There will be 3 solo opportunities in the program. The first on is on the song “Break our Hearts” that we have sung before. The second will be on the song “God Bless America”, and the third one is a stand alone solo, that if interested you may pick yourself, as long as it is a Christian Patriotic song. I will be making solo assignments Sunday, June 1 from 5:00 to 6:00 pm, and then again on Wednesday June 4 at 6:00 pm. If you can’t come and sing for me during one of these times just let me know and I will schedule a time just for you.

The way you’ve been leading in worship has just been phenomenal, proof that when we submit to the Lord and His leadership, we can do things that we would not be able to do otherwise. BIG MUSIC SUNDAYS

This summer we have 3 BIG MUSIC SUNDAYS. Just in case you don’t remember a BIG MUSIC SUNDAY is when we all attend both services and sing in the Choir to help make the services more special. The first is one Mother’s Day, May 11, the second is on Father’s Day, June 15, and the third is on June 29 when we present our Patriotic Program. There will also be no rehearsals on these evenings. Please mark these dates on your calendar and plan to be here for both services on those day. On these days Everyone will meet in the Choir room at 8:00 am. On both Mother’s Day and Father’s Day we will dismiss from the Choir Loft in both services immediately after we sing the Choral Praise, so that you can sit with your families on these special family days. Thanks in advance for the extra time.

PATRIOTIC PRESENTATION

This years Patriotic Presentation will be on June 29, 2008 at 8:15 am and 10:45 am. I have spent the last couple of weeks finding music and all day yesterday putting the program together. This year it will be more like a BIG MUSIC SUNDAY, It will be a time that we celebrate our country, honor the Veterans and the ones that have been Lost to war, pray for our country, and most importantly honor the God who preserves and keeps this Nation great. I hope you will all plan on participating in these services. We have scheduled it the Sunday before July 4 so as not to interfere with your family time or travel plans. We will begin working on this program at our Make-up Choir rehearsal on Wednesday, May 7 and continue right up until June 29. Normally rehearsals will be on Sunday evenings at 6:00 pm, and I don’t believe we will need to have any extra rehearsals.

What a great time of worship we had this past Sunday. I thought all the music was just great, and the choir special was no exception. I praise God that he works through us to bring glory to His name when we lead in worship. This Sunday the Choir will be singing “You Are Holy” from the Easter program in both services. On Sunday evening on May 4, Norm Howell will be here from the Missouri Baptist Convention, speaking about their involvement in El Salvador Partnership missions. CHOIR REHEARSAL RESUMES

Choir rehearsal resumed last Sunday evening. The rehearsals will now be at 6:00 pm on Sunday evenings only until further notice. I was encouraged by the attendance and the attitude of those present. As always thank you for the commitment of your time, voices and resources to the service of our Lord.

HELP WANTED

We are in need of a “Music Ministry Assistant”. This Volunteer Assistant will help maintain the music Library (filing etc…), check role, collect money for the Music Ministry Fund, send out we missed you cards, and other duties as assigned. The hours will be during all choir practices. They will receive all of the benefits of Choir membership and none of the glory, and they do not have to be a musician or a singer. If you know of someone who may be looking for a behind the scenes type ministry, tell them to contact me (Evan) at the Church office 573-468-8044.

PATRIOTIC CELEBRATION

We will be doing some sort of Patriotic presentation this year, the date will be June 29, the Sunday before July 4th, at 8:15 and 10:45 am. I do not know exactly what we will be doing at this time, but expect to finalize that in the next couple of weeks. Please mark your calendars and make plans to sing with us for this special event.

COMMUNITY MUSIC EVENTS

There are two concerts that will occur in our community that normally you would have to drive all the way to St. Louis to see. The first is the Christian Worship Band “Cutless” who will be presenting a concert at Meramec Caverns this Saturday, April 12 at 6:00 pm. Tickets cost 12.00 dollars for seats in the back and 20.00 dollars for seats closer to the front. Cutless is a fairly new group with songs that have been released on Christian Radio. If you listen to JOY FM you may have heard some of there songs. If you have questions contact Meramec Caverns. Our youth group will also be attending this concert at a discounted rate. The second event will occur on Monday, April 21 at 7:00 pm here at the Sullivan Performing Arts Theater when a Brass Quintet from the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra will present a Free concert. Mark your calendars and take advantage of these special events happening right here at home.

I am excited about seeing everyone again and leading in worship with you. EASTER PROGRAM

I want to take this opportunity to say what a fantastic job you did in both services on the Easter program this past Sunday, your time and sacrifice payed off and the Lord really blessed us. Seeds of the Gospel were planted into the hearts of everyone who heard and one day they will sprout and grow and be harvested. I have to say thank you again to everyone who participated in any way in the program. I believe everything happens in the way it is supposed to happen. And though I felt like I was begging people to be a part of this program, God was at work calling and drawing the group of people together that he wanted to present this program. You responded to that call with obedience and a right spirit, and it was evident in the way everything came together that God worked. People who normally never say anything made it a point to contact me and say how blessed they were, or how God used the program to change their lives. I count it a privilege that God allowed me to be a part of this program. Why he uses me in any capacity I don’t know, but I am truly grateful and privileged that he does. Thanks again for making yourselves available to his call. I am always amazed at how God works, and I am truly amazed this time. Our program as you know was titled “I’ve Seen Jesus”, and I did see Jesus Sunday, and you know what? He looked like you.

QUESTION OF THE WEEK

Worship is defined as recognizing and proclaiming the worth, value and majesty, honor and glory of God and giving homage, respect, reverence and praise to God. Lamar Boschman’s definition in A Heart for Worship is this: “Worship is one’s heart expression of love, adoration, honor, and praise to the Living God with an acceptable attitude and an acknowledgment of His supremacy and Lordship.” He also says later in the same book: “When I worship, I would rather my heart be without words than my words be without heart.”

What a great time you all had singing “Let the Rocks Keep Silent” this past Sunday. I could see it in your faces, some of you were smiling that don’t normally smile that often. I felt like we had a great time of Worship. This week you all get a break. The Choir will not be sitting in the choir loft or singing Sunday morning, so you just pick the service of your choice and enjoy. We will be observing the Lord’s Supper in each service, so the fact that we aren’t singing should make it easier for the servers anyway.

EASTER PROGRAM

Thank you all once again for singing in the Easter program. Since my cry for help we have grown from 22 to 41 which puts around what we normally run for a cantata still a few less though, but there is still a couple of people I have not heard from who have attended rehearsals since we started working on the Easter program, but not lately. I believe this is a miracle of God. I have been doing this for over 20 years and I have never seen a group double in size in such a short time. Thank you for being willing to give of your time and talents to proclaim this important message to our church and community. The remaining rehearsals will be tomorrow, Wednesday, March 12 at 6:00 pm, Sunday, March 16 at 5:30 pm in the auditorium with the Drama Team, and the Dress rehearsal is Wednesday, March 19 at 6:00 pm. Please try to attend as many of these rehearsals a possible.

EASTER S.O.S

Last week in this email I asked everyone who was going to sing in the Easter program to come to rehearsal last Sunday evening. 19 people showed up. I thought surely this can’t be right? So yesterday I got out the role sheet and began to check off the ones that I knew for sure who were participating, I only came up with 22 people. This is less than half the number of people we normally have for a cantata. The usual number is 43 or more. It’s not that we can’t do the program with a small number of people, because we sing with fewer than that sometimes on a Sunday morning. It’s just that these programs are supposed to be out of the ordinary, that’s why we work on the music for so long and have extra rehearsals, and the choir is larger than normal etc… Then I started thinking about what the problem could be, why is this happening? The normal excuses came up: people are tired, busy, sickness, dealing with family issues, other personal issues, are trying to redirect their ministries, the weather, they just need a break or a rest, all the normal issues. These things happen every year, however this year it seems to be happening to everyone at the same time, so much so that it is now affecting this ministry. I normally don’t view a few people dealing with the above list of issues as a problem but when it affects over half of our membership it begins to affect this minsitry as a whole. Then it came to me that circumstances this winter have just not been normal. Maybe people intended to participate but just were unable to come for a while and then before they knew it Easter is almost hear and they haven’t been to one rehearsal. Because this isn’t a normal time for most of us, I’m going to lift the Choir guidelines and ask everyone who will, to begin attending the remaining rehearsals and be a part of this program. We need you. I’m even going to be so bold as to ask you to change your plans if you have already made plans not to be hear. Cindy Muschany, Paula Vawter, Dave McMullin and Virgie McGill have already altered their plans and made the sacrifice so they can be hear, could you find it in your heart to do the same. Some of you may still feel unable because of all that is going on in your life, but Jesus said in 2nd Corinthians 12:9 “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Christ looks at the inside, at the attitude of your heart, not on what is happening on the outside. I am confident that with effort and commitment, attending rehersals and listening to the rehearsal C.D. that all our choir members active, or inactive could learn this program in the amount of time left. Rehearsals are on Sunday evenings at 5:30, Wednesday evenings at 6:00. The dress rehearsal will be Wednesday March 19 at 6:00 pm. The Easter program will be on Easter Sunday morning at 8:00 and 10:45 am. Thank you for your reconsideration, I know that you all will come through, you’ve never let me down before. It may take some sacrifice on your part but the privilege and blessing that you will receive from Singing His praises, leading God’s people in worship, and proclaiming the gospel to this community will make it worth your effort. It’s all for the glory of God.

Great job last week on “The Great I Am Still Is” what a great reminder for all of us who are dealing with hardships, and times of certainty. This week the Choir will sing “I Still Cling to the Old Rugged Cross” in both services. Please be in the Choir room by 8:00 am for the early service and again at 10:30 for the second service. We have had very small groups in the early service choir barely enough people to cover parts. If you could help us out it would be much appreciated.

ONE LAST PLEA

If you are going to participate in the Easter program this year you need to begin attending rehearsals as soon as possible. If you could also come to rehearsal this Sunday evening so that I can get a count of how many people are actually going to be in the program. I can’t really tell because we have had so much sickness, or people dealing with sickness of loved ones, or other personal issues. Please continue to pray for our members as they deal with these issues.

Thank you for your responses so far to this weeks question “What do you think of what we are doing in Worship?” Your responses are invaluable to me and I will listen to each one of them. If you haven’t responded yet please do so, I will not be sending these out to everyone, so feel free to be honest and open (in a nice, positive way). I will use the responses to help me as I make future plans for the direction of our worship services. I will also address all of the issues that you bring up in a future email. Please remember that I am trying to strike a balance here, it’s kind of like walking a tight rope, sometimes I make it across and some times I fall. Please pray for me as I plan worship each week, and as you respond, remember that you are not the only one that we have to reach each week and we need to follow God’s direction not yours our mine.

You all did a great job this past Sunday the song “Manna From Heaven” was great in both services, the worship was strong in spite of not rehearsing. God really stepped in and blessed us. This week the Choir will sing “The Great I Am Still Is” in both services. EASTER SOLO ASSIGNMENTS

I would like to thank everyone who was interested in the solos in our Easter program I wish that I could give everyone a solo, but because of the few solos and the large number of people who were interested I am unable to do that. I based my decision on a number of factors including individual preparedness, whether or not you had a solo part in the Christmas program, how well the songs fit the voices, and the way the musical itself is written. Because of the way the musical is written I decided it would be better to just assign the solos to one person instead of splitting them up like I did at Christmas. With all this in mind the results are as follows: Evette Eickelmann will be singing the solo on “You Call Me Yours”, Bradley Perry (Our Famous Intern) will sing the solo on “My Savior, My God”. This will probably be one of his last programs with us if not the last. It depends on how things work out with the mission trips this summer whether or not he will be able to sing in the patriotic program or not. Kalyn Center, who by the way new all three songs almost perfectly, will sing the solo on “Coming Back to Life”. For those of you who didn’t get a solo this time, rest assured there will be other cantatas and solo opportunities. This really helps me to get to know everyones voices better, and helps me to know what kind of songs and programs to pick based on the voices we have. Thanks again for your interest, everyone did such a great job that it made my job difficult, keep up the good work.

Speaking of Easter, it’s still not to late to be involved. Just attend as many rehearsals as possible between now and Easter. Rehearsal C.D.’s and books are available in the Choir room.

Great job last Sunday on “Get Out of The Boat”, you proclaimed the message of that song boldly. I’m sure that those who listened were really inspired to do just what the song says. This Sunday we will sing “Manna From Heaven” in both services, please be in the Choir room by 8:00 am for the first service and again at 10:30 for the second. As always thank you for your time and effort. Please continue to pray for our Choir members. There is still a lot of sickness going around and other people are dealing with other issues, and are stressed to their eye balls and beyond and can’t make it or don’t feel like they should sing, and still others are trying to find there path in ministry and have decided that choir may not be the place for them. Please pray for every ones healing and guidance, direction and that the Lord’s peace would come to them In the path he wants them to go down. I have made a personal decision not to pressure anybody, but to let them find their own path. Truth be told I only want people in choir who really want to be their and who feel like it is the place that God has called them to serve. I do however want everyone to know that you will find that you are always welcome in the choir, no matter how long you’ve been away. Thank you for your service in the past, present and for your future service as well. We do ask whether or not you are active at this time for your participation in prayer.

EASTER SOLO ASSIGNMENTS

I want to thank everyone who was interested in a solo and who came to sing on the solo assignment days or made special appointments to do so. Everyone that sang did such a great job, so good in fact that I’m having a hard time making the decisions about who should sing each solo. I had hoped to publish the results today, but I just literally can’t decide. I will however have the results by Sunday. Please pray for me as I make this decision.
